How To Make Cajun Shrimp And Rice

For making Cajun Seasoning, mix together 1 and 1/2 teaspoons paprika, 1-teaspoon salt, 1-teaspoon garlic powder, 1/2-teaspoon black pepper, 1/2-teaspoon onion powder, 1/2-teaspoon dried oregano, 1/2-teaspoon cayenne pepper, 1/4-teaspoon red pepper flakes in blender and whisk them together. You can increase the quantity of ingredients if you want to add more spices in it.

Take large skillet and melt butter in it over medium range. Stir garlic and half of Cajun Seasoning in it and rice in skillet.

Now add chicken broth , bring the broth to boil, than reduce it to simmer and cover it with lid. Cook it for 15 minutes and stir after every 5 minutes. Meanwhile when rice are cooking, prepare the shrimp by stirring together the remaining mixture of Cajun Seasoning and 2 tablespoon of melted butter. Pour over shrimp and toss to coat.

Mix the shrimp in rice and cover them and let them cook for 3-6 minutes longer until the shrimp is pink and opaque. Serve them by garnishing them with fresh parsley or any other fresh herb of your choice.

Homemade Cajun Seasoning

Most of the time people use market base Cajun seasoning because it is easily available in market. People just go and buy Cajun seasoning. Homemade Cajun seasoning can be prepare in just few time and this seasoning is the best.  For preparing Cajun Seasoning mix together 2-tablespoon of garlic powder, 1-tablespoon of Onion powder, Oregano, thyme, paprika, chili powder and peppercorn.

  • 1 pound large shrimp

Notes/Tips

  • You can use homemade Cajun Seasoning instead of market base Cajun Seasoning. This homemade seasoning can b prepare in just few minutes and spices and be adjust according to your taste. If you want the Cajun Shrimp And Rice to be more spicy than add 3 tablespoon of Cajun Seasoning in it.
  • You can use fresh vegetables in this recipe but if fresh vegetables are not available than you can use canned vegetables as well.
  • The amount of stock uses depends on the rice used. If the rice is hard than add more stock in it but there is hardly any liquid left in the pan.
  • If you want browned shrimp than you can sauté the shrimp in the start of recipe. Transfer it to the plate when coo fully and cover them to keep it warm till the end.
